New York’s MoMA opens exhibition dedicated to Wifredo Lam

New York, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York opened the exhibition "Wifredo Lam: When I Don't Sleep, I Dream," the largest retrospective in the United States dedicated to the most universal of the Cuban painters.

Paintings, works on paper, engravings, illustrated books, and ceramics comprise the exhibition of some 150 works, which trace the career of the artist of African and Chinese descent from the 1920s to the 1970s.

Premiered by invitation only this Thursday, the exhibition will open to the public on November 10 and run until April 4, 2026.

Wifredo Lam (Sagua la Grande, Cuba, December 8, 1902 – Paris, France, September 11, 1982) introduced Black culture into Cuban painting and made innovative contributions that incorporated elements of African and Chinese origin present in the Caribbean nation.

His works are found in major museums in Europe, the Americas, and other continents.

The MoMA is honored to house the original of his painting “La Jungla” (The Jungle-1943), one of his masterpieces.
