Nicaraguan Co-President Rosario Murillo stated that a technical delegation visited the Port of Corinto to evaluate the protocols related to the organization, logistics, and security during the Silk Road Ark’s stay.
Members of the Nicaraguan Army’s Military Medical Corps participated in the inspection, as well as representatives from the General Directorate of Customs, the Ministry of Health (MINSA), and the Local System of Comprehensive Health Care (SILAIS). The meeting also finalized the schedule of activities for the medical mission.
The Silk Road Ark will have between 35 and 40 general practitioners, specialists, and nursing staff participating daily, offering imaging and laboratory services, as well as free medication.
According to Nicaraguan authorities, a maximum of 500 patients can be seen per day, and any additional patients will be asisted to by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MINSA).
Co-President Daniel Ortega highlighted the relations between his country and China this weekend, stating that “this ship isn’t coming with cannons or rockets, it’s coming with something much more powerful: it’s full of doctors to care for Nicaraguan families.”
He added that the gesture symbolizes China’s commitment to promoting peace, health, and development, elements that are part of the Silk Road Initiative.
