Meeting between Caribbean and EU leaders marks the close of the CELAC

Santa Marta, Colombia, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) A meeting of Caribbean and European Union (EU) leaders will mark the closing of the IV Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC and the European Union.

The event also included other meetings such as the Civil Society Summit, the CELAC Social Summit, and a business forum, which also concludes today.

Yesterday, the Santa Marta Declaration was approved, comprising 52 points and covering various issues related to the reform of the international system; trade and investment; climate, environment, energy transition, cooperation on citizen security, justice, and the fight against transnational organized crime.

The agreed-upon areas of work also include food security and health; digital transformation; social inclusion and care systems; education and research; migration and care among peoples; and culture.

In their assessment of the meeting, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and European Council President Antonio da Costa both described it as a success.

According to them, the document reveals, first and foremost, the interest of both blocs in prioritizing dialogue.
