“This title strengthens the global presence of high-quality Vietnamese rice and shows that the hard work of our farmers is truly appreciated,” declared Ho Quang Cua, the variety’s creator, upon receiving this recognition for the third time.
According to the engineer and Hero of Labor, quoted by radio station VOV, beyond the global recognition, this is also a proof to the persistent innovation and dedication of his country’s rice farmers.
ST25, characterized by its long, translucent grain that, when cooked, produces a soft, fragrant rice with a rich natural sweetness, is the result of three decades of careful selection and crossbreeding of varieties developed by Quang Cua and his research team in the former province of Soc Trang.
The brand was first recognized as the best in the world in 2019, repeated the distinction in 2023, and has now just been awarded at the 7th International Rice Conference, held in Cambodia, alongside “Malis Angkor,” presented by the hosts.
Cambodian rice has now earned this prestigious international award for the seventh time, having previously won in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2024.
