Colombia seized more than seven thousand tons of drugs in three years

Bogota, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) Colombia seized 7,279 tons of illicit drugs between 2022 and 2025, placing that period among the most effective in terms of operational results, according to figures from the Observatory of Human Rights and National Defense.

According to this organization, the seizure of illegal substances by law enforcement during the current administration prevented approximately 27 billion doses from reaching the streets of various cities worldwide and represents an annual average of over 1,800 tons seized.

In total, between 2022 and 2025, 17,838 drug production laboratories were destroyed, 96 percent of which were facilities dedicated to the production of coca paste or cocaine base.

The number of dismantled cocaine hydrochloride labs rose from 74 in 2022 to 203 in 2025, indicating a more targeted offensive against the advanced stages of processing, according to the report’s data.

The country’s Defense Minister, Pedro Sanchez, announced that a total of 780 people have been extradited in the last three years for drug-related offenses.

He also reported that they are working with chemical engineers on the development of “a type of molecule that, when added to fuel, will damage cocaine production without affecting vehicles or the primary function of gasoline.”

So far this year, according to official sources, more than 820 tons of cocaine have been seized, representing a seven percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The destruction of one laboratory every 40 minutes was also achieved, a figure that exceeds the 2024 results by 24 percent.
