At the opening of the exhibition, the Director General of the National Film Archive, Marina Stavenhagen, explained that it is a selection of 15 posters from the collection held by the Cuban Embassy in Mexico City.
According to the text accompanying the exhibition, the selected works were created between 1964 and 1993 by artists such as Raul Martinez and Rene Portocarrero, two key figures in Cuban visual arts in the 20th century, and designers such as Eduardo Munoz and Antonio Fernandez.
Before dozens of people who admired the posters for iconic films such as “Lucia” and “Memories of Underdevelopment,” Stavenhagen commented that this is the first part of a larger exhibition that will be presented next January at the National Film Archive in Chapultepec.
“We are deeply honored to present in this exhibition an important part of the iconographic collection also housed at the National Film Archive, which showcases the creativity and diversity of graphic designs in the world-famous Cuban film poster,” she said.
Following the opening, attendees enjoyed a screening of Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), a classic of Cuban cinema. According to Stavenhagen, the screening served as a preview of the Cuban film series to be shown in January 2026.
