Prensa Latina mourns the passing of one of its leading figures

Havana, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Prensa Latina awoke in mourning following the death of one of its leading figures, journalist Jorge Luna, at the age of 81.

Expressions of sorrow, as well as respect and gratitude for Luna’s contributions, are exoresded in numerous messages.

According to Jorge Leganoa, president of Prensa Latina, Luna left an indelible mark on the history of this news agency and the country, and will receive a posthumous tribute after a family ceremony.

The president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, Ricardo Ronquillo, also described him as one of the great professional figures of Prensa Latina and of Cuban journalism in the Revolution.

Colleague Frank Gonzalez remembered the excellent professional and human being, with whom he shared a six-decade friendship that began at the School of Journalism at the University of Havana.

From Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP) sent condolences for the death of the distinguished Cuban journalist, born in Peru.

Luna was an exceptional witness to events in the hemisphere, such as in 1970, when he was stationed in Chile during the presidency of Salvador Allende, until the coup d’etat in that country.

Luna, that also represented Prensa Latina in various countries, held several positions at the agency and in recent years served as an advisor to the president.

He was in charge of the translation, editing, and publication of articles by prominent contributors in English, among other duties, which he performed with exemplary professionalism and commitment.
