China demands Japan retract; tensions continue to rise

Beijing, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Foreign Ministry underscored on Tuesday that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi must retract her statements on Taiwan, and conveyed this demand to her Japanese counterpart.

The Ministry noted that Liu Jinsong, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, reiterated during a meeting with Masaaki Kanai, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau at the Japanese Foreign Ministry, its protests to Tokyo regarding the Japanese prime minister’s “erroneous statements.”

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning affirmed that Takaichi’s words seriously violate international law and the basic regulations of international relations.

Mao underscored that such statements undermine the post-war international order and contravene the one-China principle.

The spokesperson indicated that Takaichi’s statements also violate the spirit of the four bilateral political documents.
