China: FM reiterates strong protest after Japanese comments

Beijing, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed concern at the statements made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, which suggest a possible military intervention in the Taiwan issue.

At a press briefing following his tour of Central Asian countries, Wang Yi stated that such claims cross unacceptable red lines and violate commitments made by Tokyo in the four bilateral political documents with Beijing.

The foreign minister affirmed that Taiwan’s return to China was unequivocally established in international documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and Japan’s Act of Surrender, and is an unavoidable outcome of the victory in World War II.

The diplomat also remembered that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japanese fascism and militarism.

In this regard, he underscored that Japan, as a defeated nation in the war, has a permanent obligation to respect these agreements.

He affirmed that any government in Tokyo must respect them, regardless of the party in power.

Wang Yi warned that if Japan persists in its errors, the international community will have the right to re-examine the historical crimes of Japanese militarism.
