South Africa welcomes COP30 climate agreements in Brazil

Pretoria, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) The South African government welcomed the results of COP30, which include progress on climate finance and a just transition, Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Environment Willie Aucamp stated here.

Aucamp added that the country will collaborate to implement the agreements reached at the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Belem, Brazil, which establishes key measures to strengthen Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), increase climate finance, and create a just transition mechanism.

“We have robust national instruments that facilitate domestic climate action and compliance with our global commitments.

We will work with all Parties to transform the resolutions into concrete actions,” the South African minister affirmed.

The summit, the Ministry noted in a statement, emphasized the updating of NDCs, the national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement.

As part of the approved package, the “Global Mutirão” initiative was launched to accelerate its implementation, supporting countries in developing their adaptation commitments and strategies.

In this regard, Maesela Kekana, Deputy Director-General of the South African Department and chief negotiator at COP30, highlighted the establishment of a two-year work program on climate finance, aimed at mobilizing resources for developing nations.

“Furthermore, developed countries were urged to triple their adaptation funding by 2035 and progressively increase their financial support.
