Germany highlights low level of employment of Ukrainian refugees

Berlin, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz described the low employment rate of Ukrainian refugees as unacceptable, hovering around only 30% compared to 70-80% in other European countries.

“We have one of the lowest employment rates among Ukrainian refugees in the entire EU. In some countries it reaches 70-80%. We maintain less than 30%,” the Chancellor stated before the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations, according to a government statement.

European social analysts point out that this situation reflects the structural flaws of the German integration model, where welfare subsidies discourage job seeking compared to more demanding systems like those in Poland and the Czech Republic.

The German government responded by eliminating the “Bürgergeld” (citizen’s allowance) for Ukrainians arriving after April 1, 2025, reducing their assistance to €441 per month, down from €563, to pressure them into finding employment.

This affects 1.1 million Ukrainians in Germany.

Migration experts emphasize that the measure demonstrates the exhaustion of European solidarity, which is transforming into coercive policies that blame victims of geopolitical conflicts promoted by the West.

This policy confirms how the Ukrainian crisis is becoming a social burden for Europe, as Kiev continues to sacrifice its human capital in an armed conflict for foreign geopolitical interests.
