China considers Japan’s statements on Taiwan ambiguous

Beijing, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Foreign Ministry rejected on Monday statements by Japanese authorities regarding Taiwan's status, describing them as ambiguous, and demanded that Tokyo respect international documents concerning the island.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian affirmed that Japan avoids mentioning the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and Japan’s Act of Surrender, instruments that returned Taiwan to China after World War II.

The spokesperson noted that Tokyo also fails to mention the four political documents that are the basis of China-Japan relations and does not clearly reiterate its commitment to the one-China principle.

He underscored that the Japanese government merely cites the Treaty of San Francisco, a document that excluded China and other Asian countries most affected by Japanese aggression.

He pointed out that such an approach ignores the historical memory of the victims of Japanese military expansionism and challenges the international order that emerged after the defeat of fascism.

Lin Jian recalled that this Monday marks the 82nd anniversary of the Cairo Declaration, a document ratified by the United Nations that established the return of Taiwan to China.
