The audiovisual producer and publicist chose to intertwine dance, photography, and intimate connection to the land with an emotional connotation that transcends bodies, nature, and memories to denote “the place where one loves, fights, and dreams,” as the Nicaraguan poet Gioconda Belli defined the word “matria.”
Director Lizt Alfonso will once again transform her Malecon Art 255 headquarters into an art gallery to host this unique exhibition, starting December 5.
The photographer considers it an ideal location because dance there is active, revitalizing, every day.
In fact, Davalos encourages people not to be content with simply viewing images on social media via their phones, but to experience the work firsthand in a true temple of Cuban dance.
For the first time, the journalist will present a mixed selection of dancers from several of the country’s leading dance companies, including Danza Fragmentada from Guantanamo; Codanza from Holguin; Santiago de Cuba Ballet; Danza del Alma from Santa Clara; the Camaguey Ballet; and Danza Espiral from Matanzas.
Through the collaborative efforts of Davalos and Lizt Alfonso, on December 2nd, attendees of the free open class of the social project “Dancing Has No Age,” mostly grandparents, will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a kind of pre-launch designed specifically for them.
The official opening of “Matria” will take place on December 5th, and the exhibition can be viewed until August 16th at Malecon Art 255 building, located on Malecon between Galiano and Blanco, which also includes sales and exhibits.
