Ethiopia and IMF review economic reforms and collaboration

Addis Ababa, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of the Ethiopian government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met to discuss ongoing economic reforms in the country, the international organization's support, and prospects for continued collaboration.

IMF Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, who arrived in the capital yesterday leading a delegation for his first official visit, along with Ethiopian Ministers of Finance Ahmed Shide, Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa, and the Governor of the National Bank, Eyob Tekalign, participated in the meeting.

During the discussions, Shide described recent progress in local economic reform initiatives and reiterated the government’s commitment to consolidating achievements and maintaining momentum.

He also emphasized Addis Ababa’s interest in maintaining a strong collaboration with the IMF. For his part, Clarke praised what he described as “remarkable progress” under the country’s Local Economic Reform Program, noting that several challenging changes are already yielding visible results.

He acknowledged the high level of preparedness, coordination, and determination required to simultaneously advance fiscal, monetary, and structural transformations, and encouraged the African nation to maintain its current trajectory.

The IMF Deputy Managing Director is expected to continue meeting with senior officials and visiting key development projects during his stay, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance.
