Leganoa made these remarks during a meeting with Nguyen Thanh Lam, director eneral of Vietnam Television (VTV), which concluded his working program in this capital, where he arrived at the invitation of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
Thanh Lam remembered during the conversation that the first generation of Vietnamese television technicians was trained and educated 55 years ago by Cuban specialists, noting that much more can still be done to add new value to these ties.
Prensa Latina president, in turn, stated that both media outlets share common challenges, including human capital development, technological advancement, and the creation of new narratives for social communication. However, they also share unity, a characteristic element of the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.
Earlier, the PL delegation met with executives of the newspaper of the Vietnam People’s Army (Quan Doi Nhan Dan), led by its director, Major General Doan Xuan Bo, who outlined the 75-year history of the publication, which has been awarded the Gold Star, the highest decoration bestowed by the Vietnamese State.
Leganoa underscored that, in addition to shared challenges, both countries also have common enemies such as “fake news,” capitalist hegemony over the media, and disinformation.
During their stay in this nation, the delegation was received by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who thanked Prensa Latina for its support of VNA in training several generations of Spanish-speaking reporters and editors, many of whom later became leaders at that agency.
The ties between the two news agencies also symbolize the special relationship between Cuba and Vietnam, Minh Chinh emphasized, and added that Prensa Latina was a valuable source of information since the time of the war, supported and disseminated the cause of Vietnam’s defense and reconstruction, and currently broadcasts the successes achieved by its people.
