“We are waiting for a reaction from our American colleagues after the discussion that took place on Tuesday,” Ushakov told reporters, adding that there is still no clarity on a possible new meeting of this kind.
The presidential advisor also declined to predict a date for a future telephone conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Ushakov, who accompanied Putin to the meeting along with Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and envoy for international economic cooperation, called it “very useful” and assured that “contacts will continue.”
The Kremlin advisor insisted that the conversation, focused on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, was confidential and that both sides agreed not to disclose specific details of what was discussed.
The US government previously announced an initiative for a negotiated solution to the Ukrainian conflict, noting that it would not provide details for now, as the work is ongoing.
Putin commented on November 21 that Trump’s peace proposal could be the basis for a political solution, but implied that the United States would refrain from discussing it with Russia before Ukraine gave its consent.
