Shortly before participating in the event commemorating Spain’s Constitution Day, Sanchez stated, without directly mentioning US President Donald Trump, that Europe “will never be under anyone’s tutelage,” nor will it be “a vassal of any political power or any national power in other geographical regions.”
Trump warned of the possible end of European civilization due to his immigration policies and promised to consolidate Washington’s leadership as a superpower, especially in Latin America.
Sanchez warned about “powerful and very dangerous rhetoric from a reactionary point of view on the part of the far-right international.”
“(…) Europe is an ally, and Europe is not a vassal of any political power or any national power in other geographical regions,” he emphasized.
On the other hand, the Spanish Prime Minister also defended international law for Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of US attacks on alleged drug-trafficking boats, while reiterating his condemnation of the “attacks and genocide” perpetrated in Palestine by Israel.
Although the day, which marks a long weekend with the Monday holiday, should have fostered harmony, Saturday saw harsh mutual recriminations between the left and the right on various issues.
