In a statement to the press, Mathilde Panot, head of the LFI caucus in the National Assembly, denounced the fact that despite the ceasefire in effect since October 10, the Israeli army continues to cause death and famine in the devastated enclave, which is mired in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
The deputy cited a recent Amnesty International report, which points out that Israel shows no sign of changing its policy toward the vulnerable Palestinian population.
Since the ceasefire came into effect, more than 360 Palestinians have been killed, 136 of them children. This is compounded by the declarations imposing a new demarcation line for Gaza, which implies the annexation of 60 percent of its territory, the deputy decried.
In this regard, Panot considered that the French government is not rising to the occasion.
Not only is it refusing to impose sanctions against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government and to impose an arms embargo on Israel, but now Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot is also ruling out a boycott over the decision to allow Israel to compete in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, he added.
