The Ministry stated that its air defense systems shot down 389 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the regions of Bryansk, Smolensk, Kaluga, Kursk, Tver, Oryol, Belgorod, Tula, Pskov, Novgorod, Vologda, Leningrad, the Moscow region, and Crimea.
The Ministry noted that the previous record for drones shot down was set on March 10, 2015, when air defense systems repelled an attack by 337 drones.
The source reported no casualties from the downing of the drones, but did report damage to infrastructure in the Bryansk, Kursk, and Leningrad regions.
Meanwhile, the national air transport agency, Rosaviatsia, reported the suspension of operations at more than 10 airports across the country, with Vnukovo and Domodedovo in Moscow and Pulkovo in St. Petersburg being the most affected.
At Pulkovo, Rosaviatsia specified that nearly 50 flights were delayed by more than two hours after the region’s airspace was closed due to the sighting of Ukrainian drones.
Earlier, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov reported that air defenses intercepted several drones near the city. Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the destruction of six Ukrainian attack drones flying toward the capital, which caused no material damage or casualties.
