The Memoria Viva Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that preserve expressions of traditional popular culture, as well as community projects with local, national, or international impact.
It is subdivided into four categories: Preservation of Traditions, Cultural Revitalization, Artistic Projection, and Personalities, the Juan Marinello Institute announced on social media.
Proposals should be sent to the Institute’s headquarters, located in the Plaza de la Revolucion municipality of Havana, or to the email address memoriaviva@gmail.com, according to the official announcement.
The Institute recognized on social media the winners of the previous edition in the Personality category: Luis Francisco Cabrera and Pastor Eusebio Alba, from the city of Sagua la Grande, in the central province of Villa Clara.
From the same region, the Okokan Folkloric Ensemble was recognized in the Artistic Projection category during a ceremony at the Casa de la Ciudad in Santa Clara, where the group’s history and contribution to Cuban dance were highlighted.
