Members of the Uruguayan Health Federation (FUS) will gather at the monument known as the Obelisk and march to the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Health, where they will hold a rally.
The secretary general of the FUS, Marcos Franco, said they made the decision after no progress was made in the working conditions commission.
“The need arises to push more forcefully the demands we workers are making,” the union leader said. Social media called for the mobilization under the slogans “for working conditions,” “in defense of the National Integrated Health System,” and “towards a national dialogue on health.”
The union action is taking place two weeks before the partial general strike called by the PIT-CNT for June 10. The union is demanding government accountability “in light of the people’s needs,” a reduction in the workday, and measures “against the precariousness of work.”
They are also calling for a one percent tax on the wealthiest one percent of the population, with those funds earmarked to combat child poverty.
