In a message addressed to the official organ of the CTC, Colina acknowledged the daily work of its professionals in informing and guiding the working class and the Cuban people.
He highlighted the transformation of Trabajadores into a multimedia outlet, a result of the changes implemented in the editorial and economic management model of the Cuban revolutionary press.
Remembering the publication’s origins, he noted that it began on June 6, 1970, as a modest tabloid called “Los Trabajadores” (The Workers), a project conceived by Sara del Carmen Zaldivar and supported by Osvaldo de Melo, which over time became a training ground for renowned journalists specializing in labor issues.
He also remembered the words of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who, on the occasion of the publication’s 30th anniversary, emphasized the importance of its pages for understanding the tasks, achievements, and challenges of the Cuban labor movement.
The president of the Organizing Committee for the 22nd CTC Congress pointed out that the anniversary comes at a time marked by challenges for Cuba and the labor movement, as they approach this workers’ gathering, where a new leadership will be elected and work plans for the coming years will be defined.
In that regard, he called upon the journalistic community to continue contributing to the economic struggle, strengthen patriotic and revolutionary values, and promote the general culture of workers, in keeping with the historical tradition of Cuban workers’ publications. Colina expressed his confidence that the Trabajadores collective will continue to play a relevant role in defending the interests of the working class and in supporting the economic and social processes that the nation is boosting.
