The event kicked off a solidarity caravan with a heartfelt connection to the Caribbean nation, which will have another stop this Thursday in Paris, with a demonstration in front of the National Assembly (parliament), diplomatic sources indicated here.
In Brussels, neither the cold nor the persistent rain could stop the initiative, which made its presence felt in the emblematic Luxembourg Square, in front of the European Parliament, which has become the epicenter of continental solidarity.
This action marked the beginning of the activities in Belgium of the European solidarity convoy with Cuba. Originating in Italy, this caravan will travel through several European cities under the slogans: “Let Cuba Breathe” and “Europe Wakes Up.”
More than a hundred people, including social activists, members of the European Parliament, Belgian parliamentarians, intellectuals, Cuban residents, political and union leaders, as well as the delegation of the solidarity movement in Italy, joined the collective outcry.
As a prelude to this popular mobilization, the halls of the European Parliament hosted the event “Toward a New Internationalism in an Age of War.”
Activists and intellectuals, in this forum for political debate, demanded firm institutional support from the European Union for the island and called for a firm and unequivocal condemnation of what they describe as a genocidal strategy by Washington.
