According to reports broadcast by Iranian state television, the official schedule includes the first ceremonies on July 4 and 5 at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran, followed by an additional tribute in the capital on July 6.
The farewell ceremonies will then continue in the holy city of Qom on July 7 and conclude in Mashhad on July 9, where the burial of the former Iranian leader is scheduled at the Imam Reza Shrine.
Khamenei died on February 28 during attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iranian territory, as confirmed by the Islamic Republic’s authorities and various international reports.
The announcement of the funeral comes amid intense diplomatic activity in the Middle East and expectations of a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran to reduce tensions that have arisen after months of clashes.
In this context, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently stated that the chances of reaching an understanding between the two sides are greater than ever and expressed his expectation of progress in the short term.
The conflict between the United States and Israel on Iran triggered one of the biggest regional crises in recent years, with crossfire and a subsequent temporary ceasefire, while diplomatic efforts continue aimed at reaching a broader agreement on regional security and stability.
