During an analysis of the results of the recently concluded BRICS Senior Security Affairs Meeting, held in India, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the meeting supported the defense of multilateralism and the political resolution of conflicts.
The official pointed out that the meeting issued a common voice in favor of the group and the Global South maintaining their independence, strengthening solidarity, and expanding cooperation.
He also emphasized that the countries endorsed the use of the BRICS Senior Security Affairs Meeting mechanism to maintain communication and coordination on important international and regional issues.
The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that this mechanism will enrich cooperation among the so-called “Greater BRICS” and promote greater joint actions.
Wang announced that China will assume the rotating BRICS presidency next year and expressed his hope to welcome participants again to deepen political and security cooperation.
In the meeting, participants discussed challenges related to energy security, food security, supply chain security, emerging technologies used by terrorist networks, cybersecurity, and instability stemming from climate change.
The participants also reviewed the activities and outcomes of the BRICS joint working groups on counterterrorism, and on information and communication technology security.
