Angolan President to inaugurate memorial for conflict victims

Luanda, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) President Joao Lourenco returned to Luanda to Open a Memorial to the Victims of Political Conflicts in Angola, located in the New Marginal area next to the Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Memorial.

The president returned to the capital after attending the World Food Forum in Rome—organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)—where he also announced the candidacy of Angolan national Josefa Sacko for the position of Director-General of that institution.

Following the inauguration of the Memorial—a project dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives between November 11, 1975, and April 4, 2002—Lourenco is scheduled to attend the opening of the fifth ordinary legislative session on October 15 and deliver the State of the Nation address.

The Memorial is conceived as a solemn space for reflection, tribute, and the preservation of the nation’s recent history, and it is expected to become a symbol of peace and reconciliation in the country.
