During the meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, the Russian side was represented—in addition to the president—by Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov and Kremlin Commissioner for International Economic Cooperation and Investment Kirill Dmitriev.
At the start of the meeting, Putin and Witkoff discussed, among other topics, a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and a recent Russian-US agreement regarding diesel fuel. (Sputnik)
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Witkoff presented the US perspective on a potential resolution to the crisis. “We brought documents outlining certain approaches for achieving a peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict,” the envoy told Putin.
In this context, he asked the Russian president to review the documents provided.
Furthermore, on behalf of Donald Trump, Witkoff thanked Putin for the decision concerning Russian diesel exports to the United States. “I would like to thank you for your decision to lift the sanctions that were affecting diesel exports; this fuel can now be sold not only in the US but also on global markets,” he noted.
He added, “This is a very positive development, especially as the world is going through a period of economic shock; Trump is extremely grateful for this decision.”
The special envoy pointed out that the export of Russian diesel would, in particular, help improve the livelihoods and working conditions of American farmers and truck drivers. “This is yet another example of what we can achieve by working together—I appreciate it,” he emphasized.
