Cuba’s Foreign Minister questions US military spending

Havana, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday questioned the US military spending, since the US government allocates millions of dollars for that industry instead of ensuring medical attention to its citizens in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The foreign minister referred on his Twitter account that the American power used 778 billion dollars during 2020 in defense spending, which corresponds to 39 percent of what was used worldwide.

Rodriguez added that ‘despite the huge investment in sophisticated armaments to achieve supremacy, millions of Americans remain unprotected’ in the face of the pandemic.

According to the World Health Organization, the United States continues to be the country with the highest number of Covid-19 cases, with 31,742,914 as of Tuesday and 566,842 deaths.

In such scenario, vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 is progressing rapidly but unevenly, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Approximately 28.5 percent of the population is fully vaccinated; however, the number of ethnic minorities accessing immunogens is significantly lower than that of white Americans.
