Cuba’s Covid-19 vaccines are seen as Latin America’s hope

Mexico, June 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Covid-19 vaccines are a hope for Latin America to increase the possibilities of immunizing the population, limited by the distribution system and its costs, the Milenio newspaper highlights on Wednesday.

In a article on Cuba’s scientific achievement in two of its five vaccine candidates, Soberana 02 and Abdala, the newspaper highlighted that the World Health Organization (WHO) demands a minimum of 50-percent efficacy in order to validate the formula.

Abdala achieved 92.28 percent, ranking among the top seven most effective vaccines in the world, while Soberana 02 got 62 percent in two doses and with a third one that it might get to nearly 100 percent, the publication pointed out. This way, it becomes the first vaccine of this kind produced in Latin America. In Cuba, there is a logical euphoria, having bet everything on its own vaccines without entering the WHO Covax system, nor buying them in the world market, the journal added.
