Several organizations mourn Cuban-American activist’s death

Washington, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Latin American emigration organizations in Miami, Florida, on Monday expressed deep mourning for Rosa Reyes's death, activist in favor of improving relations between Havana and Washington.

It is with pain and grief that we unfold the death of our dearest companion Rosa Reyes, who served as president of the Alianza Martiana because of her extraordinary merits for over 40 years of tireless work in favor of defending the rights of the Cuban people to their independence and fundamental freedom, the text refers.

The press release sent to Prensa Latina is signed by representatives of the organizations in Miami that make up the Alianza Martiana Coalition: the Antonio Maceo Brigade; the Alianza Martiana (as an individual organization); the Jose Marti Cultural Association; and the Bolivarian Circle of Miami, Negra Hipolita.

The Women’s Association and Radio Miami are also signatories of the document; and the fraternal organizations Fornorm and PazAmor join the tribute to the exemplary political life’s work of Rosa Reyes.

Meanwhile, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez regretted on Twitter today Reyes’ death, whom he described as a friend of Cuba since she contributed to the development of ties between the United States and the island.

Rosa accompanied us in the fights for the return of Elian, of the Five Heroes and for the end of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, the foreign minister summarized, after extending heartfelt condolences to family and relatives.
