On his official Twitter account, the foreign minister said, ‘we strongly condemn the terrible assassination (…). Our America has to walk the paths of peace, these retrograde and deplorable acts only bring destabilization to nations. My condolences to the Haitian people.’
He then expressed Venezuela’s solidarity with their families and the fraternal Haitian people, calling for peace and understanding.
The death of the President was confirmed by Haitian Prime Minister Claude Joseph and, subsequently, the Haitian government issued a statement stressing that the crime was committed at 1:00 a.m. by a group of armed people who stormed the President’s private residence in Port-au-Prince, mortally wounding him.
