President Diaz-Canel highlights Fidel Castro’s social work

Havana, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday highlighted the 'unprecedented social work' by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, who 'filled the country with schools, healthcare institutions and scientific centers.'

In his speech at the international virtual meeting to pay tribute to Fidel Castro on his 95th birthday, the head of State praised the life of the Cuban leader.

‘Fidel Castro was an exceptional politician who, with humanism, intelligence, creativity and tenacity, made the Revolution by putting education and health at the forefront,’ Diaz-Canel assured.

The president affirmed that all that social work was done withstanding ‘the colossal challenges imposed by the US blockade.’

In Diaz-Canel’s opinion, all the country’s strengths are currently lying in Fidel’s vision of the importance of developing Cuban science despite the US blockade.

In that regard, he praised the work of healthcare professionals who have been fighting against the complex epidemiological situation resulting from the peak of Covid-19 cases.

‘They are the fruit of a different political system and of an emancipating and vanguard humanist thinking, still in a minority in the world, which places the human being above profits,’ he added.

Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926, in Biran, a town in eastern Cuba.
