Syrian president sets new government’s priorities

Damascus, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) Syrian President Bashar al-Assad set the priorities and guidelines for the work to be done by the new Government that took the constitutional oath on Sunday.

Our priority during the first years was to establish security and nowadays, the production and creation of job opportunities, the president said at the first meeting of the Executive.

Al-Assad also called to expand the participation of individuals and non-governmental organizations in decision making to minimize the margin of errors and failures when it comes to implementation.

Reconstruction should focus on the rural areas devastated by terrorism to prevent further migration to the cities, said the president, who reaffirmed that the Government does not plan to suspend the subsidies on basic products, but their organization and redistribution will be bigger.

The new Syrian Government, announced on Tuesday with changes in five ministries, faces serious challenges, such as mitigating the impact of the blockade and the economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, which have generated a shortage of hydrocarbons, bread and other foods, as well as long hours of power cuts.
