Network of Cuban residents supports passport measures

Panama, May 17 (Prensa Latina) The Network of Cuban Residents in Latin America and the Caribbean expressed satisfaction with the measures announced by the Cuban Foreign Ministry on the passport, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

Group Coordianator Humberto Perez, who lives in Panama, told Prensa Latina that they welcome the announcement of extending the validity of the Cuban passport as of July 1, lowering its cost and eliminating its extensions, among other measures.

In this way, he said, long-standing demands from the Cuban community abroad are satisfied and the Cuban Government’s interest in maintaining a close relationship with its emigrants and, above all, attending to their needs is ratified.

Perez pointed out that the Network also estimated that these measures have an economic impact for Cuba amid a complex situation the country is going through, as a consequence of the United States blockade and the crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, which gives more value to the decision.

On the subject, the general director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cuban Residents Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Soberon, said that the measure is part of the updating of the country’s migratory policy for the benefit of family relations.
