Since early Friday morning, rainfall has persisted, even with hailstorms, in the so-called Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, which covers an area of approximately 3,833 square kilometers and concentrates about 35 percent of the Argentine population, including the Buenos Aires Autonomous City (CABA) and 24 districts of the province of the same name.
The National Meteorological Service forecasts that the storm will continue until Sunday, which may affect voting in CABA where 17 lists of candidates are contesting for 30 of the 60 seats in the Legislature in the sixth provincial elections of the year.
Afterwards, there will be an abrupt drop in temperatures which could fall below 10 degrees Celsius.
The C5N news channel reports that so far floods have been recorded in the Buenos Aires municipalities of La Matanza, Ituzaingó, Avellaneda, Exaltación de la Cruz, Tigre, Lanús, Merlo and Zarate.
The National Government sent federal troops to the latter to provide assistance to the neighbors.
