Colombia hit by at least 3 aftershocks following 6.5 magnitude quake

Bogota, June 8 (Prensa Latina) The first earthquake that hit central Colombia this morning, which measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, was followed by three aftershocks, according to the Geological Survey.

The second of this morning’s tremors, measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 8:20 a.m. (local time), 12 minutes after the first, while the third tremor occurred at 8:37 a.m. and measured 4.6. The fourth tremor, measuring 3.8, occurred at 9:00 a.m., according to the source.

All of the quakes had their epicenter in Paratebueno, in the department of Cundinamarca, and a depth of less than 30 kilometers.

According to social media users, the earth tremors were felt in several departments across the country, such as Santander, Meta, and Antioquia.

Meanwhile, the ‟Crisis Room” of the National Disaster Risk Management Unit announced through its official channels that it is following up on the assessment of damage and potential affected areas with the departmental and municipal councils.
