The authorities located the day before a seventh body as a result of the sinking of a boat carrying migrants bound for Puerto Rico.
Fernando Castillo, director of the Civil Defense, detailed that the body was transferred in a boat of the Dominican Navy and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences for its identification.
The incident occurred when a boat of approximately 20 feet in length, presumably overloaded, sank shortly after setting sail for Puerto Rico.
The Civil Defense confirmed that 17 people were rescued alive in the first hours of the tragedy, among them a minor, while the exact number of passengers is unknown, as survivors, questioned by the authorities, estimate the amount between 40 and 50.
The incident occurred in the extreme east of the country, very close to Punta Cana.
