Peace in Ukraine requires an end to NATO aspirations, says Orban

Budapest, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Sunday that peace in Ukraine will only come when the West accepts the impossibility of this country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

During a speech at the Matias Corvino School’s youth festival, covered by a local radio station, Orban stressed that Russia will never allow NATO to expand to its western borders.

The prime minister stated that the conflict erupted precisely because of those plans, backed by the previous US administration and Western Europe.

He warned that altering the geopolitical balance always leads to war.

Orban reiterated that the solution lies in a comprehensive agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, including arms control, energy trade, and lifting sanctions.

He criticized that the European Union, except for Hungary and perhaps Slovakia, wages a war by delegation against Moscow.
