Four hotels in the tourist region of Ciego de Ávila opt for the Free Recognition of Ozone Depleting Substances, certification granted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) to meet the parameters set for this.
The environmental specialist of Citma in the territory, Livia Polín, highlighted the commitment of workers and managers of Ciego de Avila tourist entities to replace equipment using hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons.
Among the hotels seeking recognition were Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar and Grand Muthu Imperial, located in Cayo Guillermo, the Grand Aston Cayo Paredón and the Hotel Sol Cayo Coco, the latter also linked to the International Sustainable Tourism Project.
Also opting for this recognition is the entity of Almacenes Universales S. A, whose staff is committed to the protection of the environment, highlighted Polín. She added that these entities have replaced refrigeration and air-conditioning systems with environmentally friendly equipment to benefit the ozone layer, enabling Cuba to gain progress in its compliance with the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, global agreements to preserve this natural shield of the planet and mitigate global warming.
