A report published on the website of the newspaper La Repubblica points out that the about 23 tons shipment, is mainly composed of food, which was donated by the Italian people in response to an initiative promoted by the country’s group Mercy.
The ship carrying the containers set sail from Cyprus and will arrive this Wednesday at the port of Ashdod, where essential items will be distributed to the civilian population to lessen the humanitarian crisis caused by Israeli attacks that have already claimed the life of more than 60,000 Palestinians.
Domenico Giani, president of Misericordia Italy, told the media that this initiative, which was supported by the Union of Italian Cooperatives and other organizations, “combined solidarity and concrete action to offer aid that brings hope to those suffering a terrible tragedy.”
Separately, the Italian Air Force concluded the launch of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip yesterday as part of Operation Solidarity Trail 2, after delivering 100 tons of food.
A statement released on the official website of the Ministry of Defense highlights that nine shipments were made using C-130 aircraft, beginning on August 9 from Jordan, with supplies provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
