According to the presidential decree, Olabi will assume the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, representing the Syrian State at the headquarters of the multilateral organization in New York.
Since February, the diplomat has been acting as legal advisor to the Foreign Ministry.
His first official appearance within the new government took place at a meeting between the Syrian president and the Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Fernando Gonzalez.
