China urges Japan to reflect on history and maintain peace

Beijing, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) China expressed its hope that Japan would face history, reflect on its crimes, cut ties with militarism, and embark on a path of peaceful development and good neighborliness. Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei made these remarks while addressing the distortion of history that some elements in Tokyo have attempted to create, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the defeat of fascism during World War II.

“There has always been a force that attempts to glorify aggression and even rehabilitate and resurrect the witnesses and criminals of that era,” the diplomat noted. This constitutes a challenge to the post-war international order, to human conscience, and to the peace-loving people, he said.

“In recent years, Japan has also significantly adjusted its security policy, increasing its defense budget year after year, continuously relaxing restrictions on arms exports, and pursuing momentous military development,” he noted.

According to Hong Lei, this raises serious questions among neighboring Asian countries and the international community about whether Tokyo is sincerely following the path of peaceful development.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry previously confirmed that it had requested an explanation from Japan for its diplomatic efforts with other nations to undermine the international presence at the Victory Day military parade on September 3 in Tokyo.

According to the Asian giant, the parade aims to look back on history, embrace peace, and forge a better future, while showcasing a modern military force on the road to celebrate its centenary in two years.
