This was the largest summit since the mechanism’s founding 24 years ago, with the participation of more than 20 world leaders and heads of 10 international organizations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the transformative, influential, and convening capacity of the organization, which currently includes around 20 countries, cooperates in more than 50 areas, and has a combined economic output approaching $30 trillion.
SCO leaders adopted 24 documents here focusing on cooperation in security, the economy, cultural exchanges, and institutional development.
Within the framework of the Summit, the heads of state and government of the mechanism established a roadmap for the next decade with a 2026-2035 development strategy, as well as a joint declaration in support of the multilateral trading system, with the aim of reaffirming the commitment to open, transparent, and inclusive rules.
The leaders also witnessed the official inauguration of four regional cooperation centers: the Comprehensive Security Threat Response Center, the Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime, the Cybersecurity Center, and the Anti-Drug Center.
Xi remembered that within the SCO, a military confidence-building mechanism was established in border areas to transform borders into bonds of friendship and cooperation, and to lead multilateral actions against the “three forces of evil”: terrorism, separatism, and extremism.
