Venezuela and Iran strengthen alliance on strategic issues

Caracas, Sept 22 (Prensa Latina) The meeting between Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil and Iranian Ambassador Ali Chegini, focused on cooperation in strategic sectors, strengthened the political alliance and bilateral solidarity, according to the national press.

Representatives of both nations rejected the United States’ military deployment in the Caribbean Sea and US policies that violate the sovereignty of the South American country, according to the Venezuelan News Agency.

In the context of the meeting, the diplomats agreed to establish the defense of sovereignty, the promotion of development, and the commitment to a multipolar order as shared priorities.

For his part, Gil highlighted the “message of solidarity from the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the face of threats to the peace and stability of Venezuela and the entire Caribbean and Latin American region.”

Cooperation between Venezuela and Iran was consolidated during the presidency of Commander Hugo Chavez and reaffirmed in June 2022 with the official visit of the current constitutional president, Nicolas Maduro, to Tehran.
