Guatemala: Decentralization, one of the main goals of Culture

Guatemala City, Sept 8 (Prensa Latina) Decentralization is today one of our main goals, acknowledged Guatemala's Minister of Culture and Sports, Liwy Grazioso, who highlighted the major advances in this regard.

“We brought the Symphony Orchestra to the departments of Peten and Quetzaltenango, unprecedented experiences that were enthusiastically received,” the minister described in an interview with the official Diario de CentroAmerica.

“To reach more remote places, we formed smaller groups, such as the Cuarteto Primavera and the Quinteto Xochomil, in addition to a new percussion ensemble,” the official added.

“This makes it easier for academic music to reach communities where it had never been present. We also reactivated the theater competition, which after three decades has brought together 12 departments with high-quality works,” the archaeologist and historian emphasized.

In sports, he added, the 2025 Central American Games will be held not only in the capital, but also in departments such as Chiquimula, Quetzaltenango, and Verapaces.

Likewise, Grazioso continued, we promote cultural heritage workshops in different regions, because we only protect what is known and valued.

Highlighting priority projects are the completion of the National Symphony Orchestra, the restoration of the Departmental Theater, and the creation of inclusive programs for people with disabilities.

We also promoted Fair Play, which seeks to instill values in athletes, the protection of archaeological sites, and our editorial policy seeks a balance between publishing renowned authors and giving space to emerging writers.
