Colombia will defend its commitment to the Peace Agreement at the UN

Bogota, 17 Sep (Prensa Latina) A Colombian delegation, headed by the president, Gustavo Petro, will come to the UN to reaffirm the commitment to strengthen and comply with the Peace Agreements of La Habana, according to an official source.

The delegation, also made up of the canciller, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, will be at the United Nations headquarters in New York from the 23rd to the 27th of September, coinciding with the development of the High Level debate at the UN General Assembly, as reported by the Minister of Justice, Eduardo Montealegre, cited by Blu Radio.

Bogota will insist on the defense of its total peace policy and fundamentally expose the advances of the peace process with the extinct Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – Ejercito del Pueblo (FARC-EP), whose last secretariat received an eight-year sentence of restorative works for the crime of kidnapping.

“We are going to show the policy of total peace that belongs to the president who, since Luego, is not incompatible with the implementation of the agreements of La Habana”, stated Montealegre.

According to the agenda published by the UN, several outstanding activities are taking place in this edition of the General Assembly.

Among these is the Summit of Leaders of the United Nations World Pact 2025, which on September 23 will bring together government and business leaders, UN officials, stakeholders from Sustainable Development Objectives and representatives of civil society to review the contribution of the private sector to the advancement of these goals.

The UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres, also convened a Climate Summit on September 24 so that dignitaries present their new national climate action plans and benefit from the new era of clean energy.
