Cuba denounces tightening of US blockade

Havana, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The damages caused by the US blockade against Cuba increased by $7.556 billion last year, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reported to the Diplomatic Corps and the press.

The Cuban Foreign Minister presented the updated report from March 2024 to February 2025 and said that this figure represents a 49 percent increase compared to the same previous period, while the suffering of the population is incalculable.

Rodriguez presented data to support the damage and mentioned, among other things, $2.57 billion in losses from the loss of qualified personnel due to the heightened migratory flow.

Without the tightening of the US hostile policy, Cuba’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would have been 9.2 percent, one of the highest in the world.

The Caribbean nation’s historic losses over more than six decades of the blockade have reached $170.677 billion at current prices, and the value of gold at $2.103 trillion.

In his press conference, the Cuban Foreign Minister also referred to Cuba’s financial persecution and international cooperation.

He mentioned that due to pressure from the White House, some 40 foreign banks declined some 140 transfers, while also trying to deprive him of legitimate income such as medical assistance and others.

Rodriguez also denounced that the United States military deployment in the Caribbean, aimed at Venezuela and its constitutional president, Nicolas Maduro, also threatens Cuba and the entire region.
