Cubans support solidarity with Venezuela and defense of peace

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) Students from the "Octavio Garcia Hernandez" Pedagogical School in Cienfuegos expressed their support for the International Communique in Solidarity with Venezuela and in defense of peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The young people, members of the “Eugenio Maria de Hostos” Cuba-Puerto Rico Solidarity Committee, founded here by the Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade, condemned the warmongering actions seen in the Caribbean, which affect the nations of the region.

During the meeting, Eugenio Mayon Perez, delegate of the Cuban Friendship Institute in this province, spoke with the youth about the threat to peace posed by the actions of the United States Navy in the Caribbean, which have resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen people and the attack on Venezuelan fishing vessels.

The members of this Solidarity Committee, the only one of its kind in the country made up of students, also discussed the destabilizing US actions against Cuba and Venezuela, whether military, political, or economic. The international statement expresses the support of political organizations, social movements, unions, youth, women, intellectuals, artists, and grassroots leaders against the US military deployment in the Caribbean under the pretext of combating drug trafficking. It is an initiative promoted by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.

It also denounces the unilateral US sanctions as “crimes against humanity” and rejects the criminalization of Venezuelan migrants, as well as the use of the illegal Guantanamo Bay naval base for migrant detention.

It also seeks to reaffirm the proclamation of the Declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted by CELAC in 2014 in Havana and endorsed by the United Nations, something the US government is attacking with military deployments on the border with Mexico, in the Caribbean, and other Latin American nations.
