Bolivia rejects exclusions from Summit of the Americas

La Paz, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) A Bolivian Foreign Ministry statement rejects "categorically the exclusion of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua from the Summit of the Americas."

The text reaffirms the Plurinational State’s commitment to the principles of respect, inclusion, self-determination of peoples, and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.

The document notes, “The Summit of the Americas must become a space for meeting and political dialogue without exclusions, to enhance cooperation, regional integration, and respect for the ideological and political diversity of the States that make up our continent.”

The text considers that excluding countries for political or ideological reasons contradicts the fundamental principles of multilateralism, the sovereign equality of States, and hemispheric unity, which inspire the United Nations Charter.

The statement adds, “Bolivia reiterates its commitment to Latin American and Caribbean integration, based on mutual respect, the sovereignty of peoples, and the principle of unity in diversity (…).”

The Foreign Ministry indicates that the path toward a truly fair and solidary America will only be possible with the participation of all its States, without discrimination or external impositions.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned on September 30 the Dominican Republic Government’s decision to exclude his country, Venezuela, and Nicaragua from the upcoming Summit of the Americas.
