China fosters South-South cooperation with gender perspective

Beijing, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) China is currently promoting global development and South-South cooperation with projects focused on promoting gender equality and strengthening women's role in social progress.

Li Ming, spokesperson for China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), affirmed that the country will implement a series of concrete measures to fulfill the initiatives announced by President Xi Jinping during the Global Women’s Summit, held in this capital on October 13.

Li highlighted that the program includes the use of a 100-million-dollar South-South development and cooperation fund for projects aimed at the well-being of women and girls in developing countries, in partnership with the United Nations Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The CIDCA spokesperson specified that 1,000 “small but beautiful” projects will be implemented in sectors such as education, health, culture, and poverty reduction, prioritizing women and girls as the main beneficiaries.

He also announced that China will invite 50,000 women from developing nations to participate in exchange and training programs in areas such as leadership, education, and health, to strengthen their capacity for independent development.

Li also informed that CIDCA and the All-China Women’s Federation opened the Global Women’s Capacity Building Center, which will serve as a platform to promote international cooperation and training in gender equality.
